An Intimate Banff Alberta Wedding

While every wedding we’re apart of will always hold a special place in our hearts, this one will forever be one of the most memorable ones for us. That’s because it was the intimate Banff wedding of our sister and brother-in-law, and we stood as well as photographed this insanely special (and windy!) day!

My sister, Stephanie, and I are extremely close. We’ve been the best of friends since I was born. My sister has literally been obsessed with me since the moment my parents brought me home. It was always just us two and we both have a mutual obsession with one another. It’s hard living away from each other but I couldn’t be more proud of her for taking herself out of her comfort zone + building an amazing life with her husband and their son.

In 2014 she decided to make a big life change and moved to Calgary with her then boyfriend, Drew. They are both accountants and met marking the UFE in Montreal in 2012. I remember when Drew first came to visit after they met. I knew he must have been very important to her, as my sister had never been so spontaneous and open with her feelings with someone. Drew flew from Saskatoon to Barrie to meet us all. Shortly after that my sister went there to visit him and meet his friends + family. They continued flying back and forth seeing each other a few times over 2013. We then spent Christmas & New Years in Florida as a family that year exploring Disney + Universal! I knew after that trip he was the person she was meant to marry. It felt so natural having us all together. The next month my sister moved to Calgary to begin her life with the man that had changed hers. After two years of them building their life in Calgary and us flying back and forth to experience Alberta (which is now our second home and one of our favourite places in the world) my sister told me of January 2016 that she was pregnant. My whole world changed for the better. I always knew my sister would become a mother and be an amazing one at that. But nothing could have prepared me for the overwhelming sense of pride I get when I see her with our tiny new best friend. Watching her and Drew parent together makes my heart so happy it could burst. They are amazing parents and role models.

When they made the decision to have an intimate wedding in Banff with the people that mean the most to them, I knew it was going to be one of the most important days in both of their lives, as well as ours. To be able to stand as my sister’s maid of honour, to be her witness, to have my husband and I capture their marriage and have both incredible families come together to celebrate their love means more to me than I can even describe. My grandparents were the ring bearer and flower girl which made the day hilariously adorable I could barely handle it. In addition to their incredibly emotional, eloquent and stunning vows, the new, perfect innocent soul that is half her and half him made the day one of the most sacred. I truly could not have imagined the two of them becoming husband and wife without my nephew there. To know my sister has married into a loving + wonderful family makes me the happiest human.

I cry at everyone’s weddings. I cry at basically everything; movies, commercials, songs, people I don’t know + will never know. So you can imagine how much I cried on this day. I was basically running around sweating trying to capture all the moments trying not to bawl my eyes out because the moments I was capturing were of the people I’ve loved the hardest my whole life. Thank goodness Nick was there capturing it all as well! We spent the weekend in Banff bonding as new family members, sharing memories + experiences together and marvelling over the life + love these two have created. My dad and my nephew showing up dressed like Dumb & Dumber (our favourite movie which we quote 72 times a day) was the greatest way to kick off this weekend in Banff. We ended the weekend celebrating our nephew’s first birthday. It couldn’t have been more like a dream. We were so exhausted when we got home, not only from the celebrations, but the fact we photographed 7 engagements and 1 wedding in 10 days. This will forever be some of the most memorable days + memorable weekends. We love the mountains, we love Alberta, we love all of these people + love this life.

Shoutout to all the amazing vendors apart of this day! Especially Parfait Weddings who captured this day so beautifully. You can view their wedding video here.
